About Our School
Founded in 1904, Guapo Government Primary School is over 120 years old. The students not only resided in Guapo but those who attended also came from as far as Rousillac, Vessigny, Vance River, and Salazar Trace.
Some of our achievers who attended the school include:
- Geraldine George – national shotputter and javelin thrower
- Trevor Paul – former police commissioner
- Keyeno Thomas – former national footballer
- Errol Fabien – comedian/actor, radio host, founder of Gayelle TV
- Jean Barrington-Leon – Sr. Vice President Central Brooklyn Network – responsible for KCHC, ENY, Diagnostic Center, Bedford Alcoholic Center, Dr . Susan McKinney Rehab Center and 12 Child Health Centers and School-based Health Centers.
- Clyde H. Phillip – Chartered Electrical Engineer, distinguished academic leader and senior diplomat currently serving as the Roving Ambassador for the State of the African Diaspora (SOAD).
- Trevor Duncan – First Marine Pilot in Trinidad & Tobago.
- Dr. Roy Mc Cree – Dean of the Faculty of Sport, UWI.
- Ernest Ashley Taylor – Head of Government Business, WiPay Group

What Our Alumni Say
The Guapo Government Alumni Association has a wonderful mission and is a good steward of all donations it receives. As a volunteer with this organization I experience how deeply we care about transforming the lives of past and present students and everyone we serve.

Guapo Government Primary School will always hold a special place in my heart. During the 1960s, when I attended the school, it was considered the pride of St. Patrick, a beacon of excellence and community spirit.
Situated on the hill overlooking the community, Guapo School was more than just a place of learning. The teachers were respected, caring, and became like parents to many of us. The values, discipline, and love we received there spread throughout the close-knit Guapo community, where everyone looked out for one another.
For me, Guapo School was first then, and it will always remain first in my heart.

I have fond memories of my attendance at Guapo Government School even with the whippings I got which I most probably deserved. I firmly believe that the foundation I got there shaped my future. The dedicated teachers at that time (notably Mr. Fabien, Mr. Bob. Mrs. Smart and Mrs. Gordon) contributed significantly to me being a better person. Academics are important in life but I was exposed to a few sports and local dances which molded me to a well rounded life.
Every time I pass my beloved school which now houses our young children in a container-like building, I get very emotional. When I found out about the Alumni Association a couple years ago, I was excited as finally I may have a way to give back to an institution that was important to me. At first, I was only interested in participating in rebuilding the school but realised the school needs a community to accomplish this goal. So I am very proud to be part of The Guapo Government School Alumni Association as it’s is working very hard to achieve the improvement of the school and the community.

As a past student of Guapo Government Primary School, I’m proud to be called a “Guaponian.” My childhood experience there was unique, and it shaped who I am today. I’ll always be grateful to my teachers and mentors for the positive impact they’ve had on my life.

At Guapo school, I was molded to be a professional and had spiritual, cultural, emotional and educational abilities instilled in me. My teachers were great motivators and influenced my power of visualization which had a profound impact on my life.

Guapo Government school holds many cherished memories and remain one of the most meaningful institutions that I attended. Several of my older siblings also studied there and its convenient location made it an important part of our lives. The school was a true pillar of the community and I continue to hold the teachers who guided me, in the highest regard. Although the original building no longer stands it is still remembered with great affection.
